Gippsland Lakes Race Week 2012

Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club would like to invite sailors of all classes to participate in the inaugural Gippsland Lakes Race Week.
Sailed at Paynesville from April 4th to 9th, 2012
Classes sailed include Etchells, Flying Fifteens, Sports boats, Trailerables, OMR multis, OTB cats & Monos, and Cruising yachts.
Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club based at Paynesville is staging a Race Week next year, starting on April 4 and continuing until April 9
The week which is modelled closely on the very popular Airlie Beach and Hamilton Island Race Weeks is the first of its kind to be held on the Gippsland Lakes. Entries from all types of sailboats are being taken. Event organiser Stuart Loft says all will be accommodated from small sailing dinghies to high performance racing machines.
Due to the fact the event is held during the Easter break emphasis is on family involvement, with off water activities playing a major part of the week.
As a part of the shore based activities the club will be holding local seafood "long lunch" on the lay day, which will be held on Good Friday, as well local vineyards will showcase our regions finest wines.
Racing will be held in 4 areas around the Paynesville area, including Lake King and Lake Victoria. Shore based spectators will be able to view the racing easily.
The week of sailing will be a mixture of short "around the buoys" racing and long distance "passage" races. The famous Easter Classic 30 race will be part of the point score, this race dates back at least 50 years and is always a popular event with sailors.
Classes of boats which have shown interest include Etchells,J24, many Catamaran fleets, as well as trailer sailers and high speed ocean Multihulls.Cruising sailors are also very welcome to take part also.
For further information please phone Stuart Loft 0488 055 462 or online at www.sailglyc.com and follow the links to the GLRW page.

Trimaran Insurance

Since September insurance companies in Australia have pulled out of insuring trimarans. They believed the trimaran pool was to small for the amount of claims they were receiving. With a national push by several of the Multihull heavyweights it looks like some major progress has been made. Please read the email below.....

Good Afternoon Gents,

We have considered the predicament facing Trimaran owners and confirm we will re enter the market to provide Comprehensive Cover for both Cruising & Racing Trimarans. This decision applies to both moored and trailerable craft up to a maximum of 25years of age . Our normal Underwriting criteria with regard to construction type, claims experience etc will apply . This decision is effective immediately Our decision to cease offering cover on trimarans previously was focussed on results, our return to this market will still be focussed on results and a revised approach to underwriting will be portrayed across the portfolio . We cannot guarantee rating and excess structures may be as before although our aim is to give trimaran owners viable options on their insurance needs. Nautilus is a market leader in pleasurecraft insurance and also considers itself a close partner of the boating community, we hope this solution is something that will address recent issues around multihull owners and their pleasurecraft insurance needs. I am more than happy to discuss or meet with any owners re any requirements or suggestions you have in relation to Insuring Tri’s.

Christmas Drinks

HO HO Merry Christmas, well it's that time of year again. Even though everybody is busy this time of year, some of the crusty crew were talking about Xmas drinks. How many are really interested???? Please write a comment below with numbers so we can organize a table at the Matthew Flinders, most likely next Wednesday 21st.

HYC Training Boat Cover.

The new cover for the HYC training boat has been ordered thanks to Nanna  Lisa Miller. We should have it by late December for the grand presentation at the next club race.

Geelong Race Week.

There's been lots of talk this year about how many boats will commit to this regatta in January. Even though its not the exact format we were after I believe around 9 boats at this stage will start. We have free birthing at Docklands for the Wednesday night followed by the Melbourne to Geelong Race on the Thursday.
This will be a short 4 race series leaving sailing credits to do the Round French Island Race, Marley Point and National Regattas. Come along and join the fun.

Remember next Wednesday at the Matthew Flinders, comment below if you can make it for a meal or even a drink.
